The first thing Annabel and I do when we meet up is fire up the espresso machine and have a good catch up over a cappuccino. Isn’t it interesting how the coffee culture has become so huge? I’m old enough to remember the coffee bars in Soho – places where beatniks lurked and men in black polo necks recited maudlin poetry. Not quite like the Starbucks and Costas of today! Anyhow, I digress. A year ago, we tested out some capsules from a Belgian company called Belmio. We were (and still are) impressed.
As coffee isn’t exactly cheap, we were intrigued to see how Belmio coffee pods measured up to our then current favourite, Nespresso. We were not prepared to compromise on quality and we had, in the past, tried other capsules which were disappointing in flavour (and made of the dreaded plastic). Put simply, we LOVE Belmio’s capsules and have been buying them ever since.
There are lots of Nespresso-compatible pods around, but here’s why we prefer Belmio:
THE COFFEE STORY, FROM BEAN TO POD
Their story begins with the very roots of the flavour, in the high-altitude coffee plantations. Here they source what they believe to be the very best Arabica and Robusta beans, with the most unique flavours and the gentlest characters. Next their master roaster subjects every bean to yet another strict selection process, after which he blends them virtuously into sublime, lyrical mélanges. Their coffees are roasted slowly and intensively for a lengthy period, resulting in an extra intense and well-balanced flavour, full body and unique character.
For the modern coffee drinker only the best is good enough, which is why Belmio selects only the best Arabica and Robusta beans for five distinctive and rich coffees.
ALUMINIUM COFFEE CAPSULES FOR A PREMIUM TASTE
The Belmio coffee pods range, with its five exquisite blends, is presented in premium aluminium capsules that protect against oxygen, light and moisture, the Belgians, as with their chocolate, know how to take coffee to the next level.
I am a such a huge fan of Belmio coffee pods that, quite frankly, I’m content to drink whatever colour capsule I pop into my espresso machine – quality and taste exudes from every cup.
