Let’s celebrate Earth Day with some Yoga Essentials

April 18, 2023

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

Earth Day is a global event celebrated on April 22 every year to promote environmental awareness and encourage people to take action towards protecting the planet. It began in 1970 as a response to growing pollution and environmental degradation concerns. It has since become an important platform for individuals, organisations, and governments to come together and discuss ways to safeguard the Earth. On this day, people around the world participate in activities such as planting trees, cleaning up litter, and promoting eco-friendly habits like reducing plastic use and conserving water.

With climate change and other ecological issues looming large, it is more important than ever for individuals and societies to take responsibility for their actions and make changes that can help protect the Earth for future generations. Earth Day is a reminder that we are all connected to the natural world and that every small step we take towards preserving it can make a big difference. So, let’s come together on April 22, 2023, and show our commitment to protecting the planet.

We write a lot about fashion and well-being, so this week, I thought I would focus on exercise and, more specifically, yoga. I will show how just in this one area of our lives, we can be eco-conscious and choose products that enhance this activity which are also not harmful to the planet.

LIFORME MATS

Are you tired of slipping and sliding during your yoga practice? Look no further than Liforme yoga mats!

Not only do these mats come in a variety of eye-catching colours and patterns, but they also provide a stable surface for even the most advanced poses. No more worrying about slipping during downward dog or losing your balance during Warrior III.

But what really sets Liforme mats apart is their alignment system. No more guessing if your hands and feet are in the right place – the lines on the mat guide you into proper alignment for optimal posture and maximum benefits.

And let’s talk about the material – their mats are made from natural rubber and eco-friendly polyurethane and are biodegradable, so they are non-toxic. You can breathe easy knowing you’re not exposing yourself or the environment to harmful chemicals.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Liforme mats are also durable and easy to clean, so you can focus on your practice without worrying about damaging your mat or the hassle of constant upkeep.

The price….remember Liforme mats are for life.

At 185 x 68cm and 4mm thick, the Liforme mat is slightly larger than average, so no hanging over the edge – however, given it weighs 2.5kg, you may think it’s not the easiest to lug to a yoga class. I have the Liforme Mother Earth Yoga Mat and absolutely love it and quite happily carry it to my class every week. It is worth the effort.

However, if you’re looking for a mat to use on the move, I also recommend the Liforme travel mat

From 13/04/23 – 30/04/23 there is an Earth Month Sale – Save up to 30% Sitewide + 5 Trees Planted with Every Order. Click HERE to go to the Liforme website.

So say goodbye to slippery mats and hello to a more stable and enjoyable yoga practice with Liforme. Your mind, body, and mat will thank you.

YOGA CLOTHING

Swap your synthetic activewear for bamboo.

I find many of the major brands of leggings etc., a little hot for the warmer weather when I am doing a yoga class. It may be because they have so much lycra to hold you in. However, I recently found the bamboo-cotton leggings from Patra so much more comfortable. They combine the durability of cotton and the natural antibacterial properties of bamboo. They have the right amount of stretch without overheating my body, and I love the Spring addition of cashmere blue. Do try their cotton crop tops as, again, they are so much easier to put on. I find I need to be a contortionist to get into some brands of sports bra tops (no names mentioned).

BAM CLOTHING

BAM use bamboo because it’s the planet’s fastest-growing crop. You know that trees are good for the environment, but bamboo is even better. Bamboo absorbs five times more carbon than hardwood trees, and because it stores carbon in the plant and roots, it is able to regenerate soil health. It’s simply one of the best crops you can use if you want to protect the planet.
