This week’s Fashion Fix was inspired by CountryWives’ reader Valerie Ray from Shropshire. At five foot ten with an inside leg measurement of 33 inches she, like many other tall ladies, is finding it hard to source fashion pieces that will really suit her shape. So, CW has come to the rescue with this guide to fashion shopping especially for taller women!

Long Tall Sally – although I have been disappointed with some of the fabrics that LTS have used in the past, I have been very pleased with the t shirts, jeans and yoga trousers I have bought – mine have been worn and washed frequently and all have retained their shape and colour.
TIP: Try wearing different colours on the top and bottom halves of your body to break up your height.
Invest in a trouser suit – it’s the quickest way to upgrade your look and instantly be taken more seriously. You can also make it more casual by rolling up the sleeves, wearing with a plain t shirt or swapping heels for trainers. This one is from Me+Em who I have always found to be generous in their arm and leg lengths.
TIP: High waisted trousers look great on tall women. But avoid capri pants as they’ll hit your calf at the wrong spot and it will look like your trousers have shrunk in the drier. Tall women can pull off flares or wide-legged styles, too.
TIP: Got long arms? Look for 3/4 length sleeves or create them by rolling up sleeves that are just that little bit too short. J Crew has a tall section on its website – you won’t have to look hard to find some good pieces.
Ignore the 12 year old model’s sad face and concentrate on the really useful (and very pretty) t shirt with beautifully long sleeves from Taller Than Your Average
TIP: Sometimes models aren’t as tall as you might think, so have a look to see what the model’s height is – most websites give this information.
The average Swedish woman is 5’9” which dwarfs the UK’s average of 5’3” which is why brands like COS are cut longer than many of their high-street counterparts.
Topshop is another great source of clothing for tall women – of all ages. TIP: Highlight your waist – it’s a simple way of giving the illusion of a perfect hour glass figure.
The average British woman’s height is 5ft 5in, so finding clothes if you are taller can be tricky. Knee length dresses turn into minis, and maxis into midis. My last recommendation is a bit of an odd one. The Floryday website has an amazing selection of longer dresses which are such good value that you almost don’t trust them to be any good. I took the plunge and ordered a chiffon maxi dress from them last year and it turned out to be wonderful (and very long).
TIP: Tall girls can indulge in big and bold accessories like this spectacular necklace
