This May we are celebrating Local and Community History Month at The Joy Club. To do so, we are delighted to welcome some brilliant expert speakers. These include artists and historians, who will be guiding us through fascinating stories from the Tudor period right through to the most memorable royal occasions of the last 250 years. From expert talks to creative workshops, here’s a preview of our busy events calendar this month…
Jubilee: A scenic tour from antiquity to the present day
In this whistle-stop tour, starting with the ancient origins of the custom of Jubilee, stopping off at some of the notable British Jubilees since 1809 and finishing with the celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth II this year. You will be taken on a guided virtual tour through some of the most notable public events in the last 250 years. Led by experienced artist, lecturer and researcher Bob Tate. Join him for a journey through the art and architecture of British history, and enjoy watching the celebrations unfold from the comfort of your own home. This talk takes place on Wednesday 18th May at 1pm.
Explore the rich history of the Tudor House Museum with Dr Anna Muggeridge
Following her first event for The Joy Club for Women’s History Month, which received glowing 5* reviews, we are delighted to welcome you to our next fascinating talk from historian, Dr Anna Muggeridge. She will take you behind the scenes at the Tudor House Museum to “meet” some of the residents who have lived here over the centuries. Formerly three separate buildings, constructed between 1480 and 1555, the museum was originally private houses, lived in and worked in by ordinary people in the city of Worcester from the sixteenth to the very early twentieth centuries. Hear from an expert what life would have been like for those residents, as well as about its role in the Second World War and its unlikely connections to the Cadbury family. Join to book your place now for Dr Anna’s talk taking place on Wednesday 4th May at 11am.
Learn how to take fantastic photographs using only your smartphone camera!
From the stories of the past to something brand new – we are excited to welcome a brand new creative workshop to The Joy Club this May with professional photographer, Jeanette ‘Jet’ Lendon. In this interactive session, you will learn as you go how to take masterful photographs on an iPhone camera. Passionate about showing everyone how to make the most of the cameras we all have in our pockets, Jet will be live streaming from Kings Cross in London, showing you how to spot a great shot, consider composition and edit your photographs. We hope you can join us for what is sure to be a lively session on Tuesday 24th May at 11am.
