Buy cheap, buy twice. Definitely applies to Kitchen Cookware!

A couple of months ago I bought a frying pan for £14 from a well known homewares store. A couple of weeks after that, it was looking shabby and the non-stick had “unstuck”. So the old adage buy cheap, buy twice was proved right (yet) again. I say again because I do find it tricky to resist a bargain! But I’ve learned my lesson when it comes to kitchen cookware. When we are dealing with heat and hot (often boiling) food, it makes sense to use quality pots and pans.

Out of interest, I checked in my kitchen cupboards to discover that the only items that have lasted the test of time are the quality ones that made my credit card squeak when I purchased them. So when Annabel and I were given the chance to review a quality brand called Circulon, we jumped at the chance.

First things first. Who exactly are Circulon? Well, turns out they invented the world’s first non-stick pan 35 years ago. Since then, they have continued to develop their non-flake, award winning kitchen cookware so that it is built for life and, as they say, for “fearless cooking”. Very much like the sound of that.

Circulon’s kitchen cookware range has everything from roasting tins, oven trays and cake tins, to accessories and – coming soon – ergonomically designed Japanese knives. Check out their website here to see their full ranges.

Obviously we’ve tested out the frying pans before writing this article. Annabel opted for the SteelShield™ Nonstick Stainless Steel C-Series Frying Pan. Very usefully this pan is oven safe to 260C. The stay cool handle stays cool on the stovetop – but as our little fingers found out – not so much when in the oven. Rated highly by BBC Good Food (as well as us) this tri-ply clad stainless steel pan is ultra durable (even if you use metal utensils) crafted as it is from a pure aluminium core bonded with two layers of stainless steel. You get even heat distribution throughout, it works on all stovetops, has a lifetime guarantee and can be popped into the dishwasher. Available in three sizes. £65 More info

I’ve been happily using the Premier Professional pans. This particular pan collection incorporates a patented Hi-Low food release system, proven to provide outstanding non-stick performance. A comfortable soft grip handle, oven safe to 180C, suitable for any heat source, dishwasher safe and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Currently on offer – a two pan set (20cm and 28cm) for only £55 (reduced from £110). Shop now

If you need a new frying pan or two, check out the Circulon website here. Some great deals for great cookware.

Lots of extra Black Friday deals also available on the Circulon website until midnight Monday 29 November.

  1. Hi, I own an independent.cookware/kitchen shop and I can advise that, contrary to popular belief, the worst thing to use in a non-stick pan is olive oil.The burning temperature is too low for high temperature frying meaning that eventually the non-stick surface disintegrates and becomes ineffective. The best oil for a non- stick pan is either a good quality vegetable oil or better still rapeseed oil. Also after using the pan, it’s best not to plunge it into cold water, this can cause something called thermal shock which can affect the performance of the pan. By adopting these techniques your non-stick pans will have years more life in them. Circulon is a great product and sells very well in our business. Hope this helps! Kind regards Helen
