As regular A&G readers will know, Annabel and I are fans of The Joy Club. Well, even the name makes you feel happy doesn’t it! It’s an online activity club and community that provides inspiration for anyone living in the UK who is semi or fully retired. It’s a great opportunity to try something new or revisit a pastime/skill you once enjoyed. So, if you’ve ever thought about doing an online course or activity, The Joy Club could be just the thing for you.
In addition to all the new online activities that we feature on A&G each month, there are two brand new courses beginning this month. Both consist of a series of specialised sessions designed to give you structured opportunities for learning.
Figure drawing – starts 12 January 2023
This five week course runs from 3.30 – 5pm every Thursday and is designed for beginners. Contemporary figurative artist Lawrence Crane will teach you how to master the delicate art of figure drawing using graphite, charcoal and paint. Over the weeks you will become familiar with artistic anatomy, gestural drawing and how to render paintings. More info here
Indian culture and history through dance – starts 17 January 2023
Over five weeks, from 12.30 – 13.30 every Thursday. Classical Indian dancer Kavya Kaushik brings over 25-years’ experience to this course, where she will teach you a variety of different dance styles and provide you with the context of where they fit in the cultural and religious history of India. From the Mughal courts of 16th century India; to the temples and brothels of the 19th century; to modern day hip-hop inspired Bollywood dance, the evolution of dance tells the story of identity and cultural shifts. This will be an interactive course with dance and exercise for complete beginners. You do not need any previous dance experience to attend this course. More info here
