Add a flash of Red: one way of cheering up this dull weather!

Red is strong, bright and flattering. When we wear this colour we are making a positive expression of our character and independence,. It is one of the most vibrant, attention-getting colours.

But does red suit everyone? True red is, we’ve been told on good authority, the one variation that suits absolutely everyone. If you are ‘warm’ like me, you can also veer towards an orangey-red (like geranium red from Kettlewell) and if you are on the cooler spectrum, go for a red that has a touch of blue such as scarlet.

Anyhow, am not suggesting you go red head to toe, just one or two pieces that will not only cheer up your day but possibly everyone else’s that you meet. And if you decide to treat yourself to a new red piece for your wardrobe, you can wear it at Christmas – so much better than one of those perspiration-inducing, non eco-friendly synthetic festive jumpers!

As Jenny Joseph wrote: “When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me” spurring generations of women to confront getting older with gusto and not be grey and invisible. Well I agree, except I’d recommend a hat that suits you!

Sleeveless knitted tank tops have been on trend again and I can see why they are so popular. They are a welcome extra layer now that we are fully into Autumn.
