Shed your old skin (aka winter clothes) for a few Spring beginnings

April 1, 2021

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

There is something quite invigorating about Spring. When we shed our winter skin, I don’t mean an exfoliation, though that could also be beneficial; we pack away those clothes in the dark, warming colours and embrace our bright, cool clothes. If this time of year has you wanting to do some spring cleaning of your life, some shedding of your old ‘winter skin’, here are some casual clothes for women over 50 to get you started, from some of our favourite online brands.

KETTLEWELL COLOURS

As one reader wrote to us and said, “Thank you for introducing me to Kettlewell Colours; they have the widest range of colours to choose from, and the best tops which are so flattering and last forever.” Grace and I love it when we can get out all our Kettlewell Colours Summer pieces as they look just as good from year to year. However, here are a few pieces from the new collection, but hurry as it is all selling fast.

PEACHY BELTS

Peachy Belts, a favourite of ours for belts, has some great new belt colours and detachable buckle designs this Spring.

The finest suedes that feel like velvet and wear as well as leather in purple, olive green, sand and navy, turquoise ostrich and pink croc, the Italian factory they are produced in is owned by Chanel.  Pretty pink and Swarovski crystal buckles help you transform your look for spring.  All of their belts are handcrafted in England and provide superb quality and durability. I love the idea that you can buy a godchild, grandchild or friend one of these belts with a buckle and then each year, you could add a new buckle or belt—such a useful and fun present. Watch the video below of the Spring collection.

Detachable belts are available on the 30mm and 40mm belts – allowing the wearer to change their belt/buckle combination as their collection grows.

ME+EM

Me+Em offers a huge range for every season, with new collections being added monthly. I have been wearing Me+Em since it began as their trousers are the best fit with so many styles that there is nearly always something for everyone. However, this Spring, I was so happy to find a dress, (BRUSH STROKE FLORAL FLUID SLEEVE MIDI DRESS) that gave me a bit of a waist as it is adjustable from the back. The Me+Em Wear with everything Blazer is just that – it can be worn every day for any occasion, either with formal trousers or some of the Me+Em joggers. If you purchase this Blazer, you will be wearing it for years to come. Even their pocketless Tees are extra-special, soft and a simple addition to any outfit.

Grace chose a boxy, loose fitting cashmere cardigan, (LOFTY CASHMERE SILK CARDIGAN) as she preferred an outer layer that was less fitted – another useful, wear over anything, addition to a Spring wardrobe. Finally a tracksuit in a soft pastel lilac – not for working out but great as loungewear, a look that Me+Em have mastered during the past year.

HOPE FASHION

Hope Fashion offers a smaller range but one that caters for those of us not blessed with model figures. Their designers understand the older woman’s body and so they design clothes to hide the bad bits and enhance our best bits. Grace said that her denim cropped jumpsuit is an absolute winner as she could wear it anywhere with a long-sleeved shirt or thin sweater underneath or a short sleeve tee-shirt as it gets hotter. I love the combination of pink and orange in the skirt I am wearing.

SILVER PINK

Silver Pink is one of our more recent discoveries – the Queen of the Long Cardigan. Knitwear can play a vital part in layering. The simplicity of a lightweight cardigan makes it one of the best ways to layer outfits. And the Silver Pink scarves are the most versatile as they blend and brighten many an outfit. Grace is wearing her grey Cable Cardigan, (cashmere & wool – machine washable), a Spring addition for Silver Pink, with a red fine sweater from From Future and the Spring Burst scarf from Silver Pink. Annabel is wearing the soft pink Cable Cardigan, again with one of their scarves – the Soft Feather scarf.

We may have found the perfect white shirt from Silver Pink – Grace is wearing it under the Jumpsuit from Hope Fashion in the previous pics.

The best news is we have a 10% discount code when you quote A&G10 at the Silver Pink checkout. For more info on Silver Pink and to go to their website, click HERE.

Spring is a time of new beginnings, and the arrival of something new means something old must go away either into storage for next winter or sell it on one of the many second-hand websites. Now is the time to get rid of unwanted clothes and streamline your wardrobe. Shed your old clothes and maybe try a few new pieces.
