Slouchy Fashion Edit: May as well get Comfortable!

March 3, 2023

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

I can’t remember the last time I reached to the far end of my wardrobe to find an evening dress. I’m beginning to wonder if I will ever again enjoy pulling on my Bombshell full length sequins. On the other hand, who doesn’t also love spending a day in slouchy fashion!

After several years I am finally getting around to organising a couple of holidays. One of them incorporates a long flight and so I’ve been on the prowl for something to wear on the plane. Which is how I came across these comfortable-looking pieces that will also be perfect to pop on when you are enjoying some “me time”…

Can’t decide between these two outfits:

      • Alpaca blend jumper £79 Arket

      • Recycled cashmere and wool trousers in matching Beige Melange £135 Arket

        • Relaxed fit barrel legged cotton blend joggers £49 at Cos

        • Merino wool jumper in matching Dark Grey Melange £69 at Cos

Wearing an oversized top is like being given a big warm hug. Until the summer weather kicks in and we won’t be so reliant on ever more expensive gas and electricity, a cosy top sounds like a good option to me.

OMG isn’t this split hem V neck jumper from Me+Em absolutely gorgeous?

100% pure cashmere, flattering V neck and awonderful colourway.

There are just some styles that shout “wardrobe hero” and this is one of them…

Have you noticed that cardigans are making a comeback? They make a brilliant extra layer of course and are available in several different styles.

            • Boxy ones are on trend – such as this collared cardigan from Boden – currently £104 with code H6G6

            • The double faced wool longline cardigan £125 at Cos

            • Or how about this cosy looking Wrap Cardigan? £45 from &OtherStories

We also need truly comfortable, “didn’t know I had it on” underwear and I’ve recently discovered such a bra. Softly padded, all day comfort and supportive without looking frumpy. £20 for three in a choice of two colourway sets. More info

There’s also a new seamless body in a soft stretchy Cool Comfort™ technology fabric that is light control and yet somehow gives you a pleasingly smooth silhouette. As regular readers know, I always wear a body over my bra and pants – even in the summer – because it tames my lumps and bumps and gives me that little bit of confidence. Loving this new addition to M&S lingerie collection. £15. Available in Black and Rose Quartz. More info

          AMAZON £17.99

Last but not least, something that will really look after your feet. Apparently I need a new hip but, as I mentioned above, I am hoping to go on holiday first. So I asked the (rather dishy) surgeon what I should do in the meantime and he gave me three pieces of advice. 1. Consider having a cortisone injection. 2. Take a high dose of good quality, easy-to-swallow Glucosamine (with Chondroitin) and…

          3. Treat my feet to some ASICS gel trainers – gel being the keyword here as only they offer the ideal support/flexibility/cushioning. A renowned Japanese brand, they specialise in running shoes but they are so comfortable they are also treasured by people who have to be on their feet all day. I’ve ordered mine (Gel-Excite 9 as pictured above) £80 from John Lewis.
