This is Unfolded: a fashion brand that works hard for the planet

October 14, 2022

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

We do not often introduce a new brand into our list of recommended fashion houses, but This is Unfolded deserves a big shout-out and let me explain why. Before I do, I need to tell you that all of their clothes are under £50 so hopefully, that has got you interested. Read on, though, for more of why This is Unfolded is so good.

This is Unfolded embraces a new concept of only making clothes to order, so you may have to wait a little longer for your parcel however, you will not be contributing to the 30% of new clothes made every year that are never sold due to over production – helping drive fashion to the second biggest polluting industry in the world.

For the last decade I’ve worked with some of the biggest brands around. I can tell you firsthand how damaging these companies are to our planet! They think nothing of buying 30,000 t-shirts and then only selling 20,000 of them. The costs of doing this are built into their pricing. Most brands work on a 4-5x markup, meaning if they sell you a top for £30 it will likely have cost them just £6-7 to make. The leftover stock is often sent to landfill or burnt. How wrong is that? Can you imagine the damage this does to our planet?

This means that with the savings created, This is Unfolded offer great value, pay higher worker wages and fund children to learn to read and write around their factories in Delhi, India, with the aid of their charity partner, Pratham. In the past 16 months, they have funded over 3,500 children to learn to read and write. In India, 1 in 4 people will never be able to read and write. Tackling this is the key to higher wages and, in turn, a better life. A new dress for you – 2 months of support with Pratham!

Grace and I also like that every item has been designed with input from the Unfolded community; over 1,500 women in the UK helped design the pieces in the current collection, including the two pieces that Grace and I chose.

Woolmark launched a shocking new campaign to show the volume of synthetic materials used in fashion. Did you know that an Olympic-sized swimming pool of oil is used to make synthetic clothes every 25 seconds? That’s 2.5 MILLION litres every 25 minutes! You can watch this harrowing video HERE.

In the past 12 months, This is Unfolded has seen over 10,000 people shop with them for the first time so their message is clearly getting heard.

Why not try them? We have a discount code A&G15, and you’ll get 15% off your first order; the minimum order is £30 and this offer is valid till the end of November. Click HERE, to go to the This is Unfolded website.

Of course, you may not like the chosen item, or perhaps it does not suit or fit you. So This is Unfolded has created a Swap Group on Facebook. Click HERE to find out all about it and how it works. However, in some cases, a refund is necessary, so This is Unfolded offers a returns policy, but HERE they give why they try to get you to swap it first.
