At Annabel and Grace, we firmly believe that we are not too old to do things or embrace new experiences. We are lucky enough to have some fabulous guest contributors to prove this! Thanks to the Joy Club for another article letting us know what is new for March…..
March is a special month at The Joy Club. With International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day coming up in quick succession, we’re dedicating the whole month to celebrating women: from our wonderful female-led partners and our feminist icons to the brilliant women and mothers in our membership. You can expect celebratory content from our members as well as exciting talks and events from some of the women we most admire.
So what are you waiting for? Take a look at some of the things we’re celebrating this month…
Create a springtime wreath with The Wreath Project
The Wreath Project was established in the first lockdown of 2020 by Lucie Lindsay, a professional florist. Her business was founded on her unique, high-quality wreaths. With all her events postponed to 2021, she came up with the idea of designing and selling DIY wreath kits that her customers could make at home. It was a roaring success! Her festive wreaths proved to be such a big hit over Christmas that now Lucie has added a spring-themed collection to her store. Perfect for Easter crafting!
Special offer on Laylo’s boxed wines
Think boxed wine is just for cheap plonk? Think again! Our friends at Laylo source premium wines from independent winemakers. They then wrap them up in boxes you’ll be proud to have on your countertop. Their first wine is a delicious Tempranillo made by winemaking sisters Ruth & Ana de Andres. It’s big, juicy and has a classy lick of oak… Perfect with a chunk of Manchego and great company. The box is inspired by Rioja tapas bars, with the wine’s story and the winemakers hidden within its tiled design. Keep an eye out for their brand new Sauvignon Blanc – arriving soon at a discount for our members…
Join us on International Women’s Day for ‘Suffragette Stories’ – a special talk with Dr Diane Atkinson
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’ve invited Dr Diane Atkinson, acclaimed author of ‘Rise Up Women!: The Remarkable Lives of the Suffragettes’, to lead a talk and Q&A on the history of women’s suffrage for The Joy Club Presents…
Diane Atkinson completed a PhD on the politics of women’s sweated labour. She has worked at the Museum of London, where she was a lecturer and curator, specialising in women’s history. She is the author of many books about the Suffragettes and women throughout history. Most recently, at the centenary of (some) women getting the vote in the UK, she covered the experiences of campaigning women in ‘Rise Up, Women!: The Remarkable Lives of the Suffragettes’. Harriet Harman MP described this book as “A thrilling and inspiring read! For too long, these extraordinary women have been hidden from history. ‘Rise Up Women!’ should be a standard text in all schools. And will be a treasured handbook for today’s feminists.” We can’t wait to host this talk at The Joy Club!
There’s plenty more to discover, unlock and enjoy at The Joy Club. If you’re not already a member, you can sign up and enjoy three months’ free membership (just for Annabel & Grace readers) by using promo code A&GNY21JOY. Redeemable until 30 June 2021.
About The Joy Club
The Joy Club is a membership website for people over 65 that supports its members to afford a more active retirement. Members have access to a host of free, discounted and money-making activities so that a limited budget and lockdown-restrictions don’t get in the way of an active lifestyle.
“Highly recommended. If you are over 65 – sign up. I have done a yoga class, signed up for a six-week creative writing course and am going to be making pasta. I am in my first month free trial and will definitely become a member. It’s brilliant, a no brainer.” – Kate
